Swing Door Guarding: Safe Access When Maintenance Matters
Some areas of a rollforming line require regular access for setup, tooling changes, inspection, or maintenance. In these locations, ASC can incorporate swing-door guarding with safety interlocks.

These access doors allow personnel to enter the guarded area when the machine is stopped while preventing normal operation when the guard is open.
ASC utilizes Allen-Bradley Guardmaster safety components for applications requiring monitored access.

The safety interlock becomes part of the machine's safety circuit, helping ensure that opening a guarded access door initiates the appropriate safety response.

Plexiglass Guarding: Safety Without Sacrificing Visibility
In applications where visibility is critical, ASC can incorporate plexiglass guarding.

Clear guarding allows operators and maintenance personnel to observe the forming process, material movement, tooling, and other machine functions without exposing themselves to the moving components.
This can be particularly valuable during setup, troubleshooting, and production monitoring. Operators can see what is happening inside the guarded area while the physical barrier remains in place.
The result is a combination of visibility and protection—allowing personnel to monitor the machine without unnecessarily opening the guarded area.
Keyence Floor Scanners: Open Access Without Physical Barriers
For applications where a traditional physical guard is not practical, ASC can offer Keyence safety laser scanners as an additional guarding solution.

Floor scanners create a configurable safety zone around designated areas of the machine. When a person enters the protected area, the scanner detects the intrusion and sends a safety signal to the machine control system, initiating the appropriate safety response.
This approach can be particularly useful around areas where operators need frequent, unobstructed access to the machine or where physical fencing would interfere with material flow, production, or visibility.

Unlike a physical guard, a floor-scanning system does not require operators to open a door or move around a barrier simply to access an area. It can provide a clean, open machine layout while maintaining a defined safety zone.
Keyence scanners can also be configured for applications with different access and monitoring requirements, making them another tool ASC engineers can consider when developing the overall machine safety strategy.
